Deciphering Wolff’s “Crave”: Themes and Flaws in This Slow Burn

Grace enters a new life at a new school in Crave by Tracy Wolff

It’s been some time, Curious One. A long time since I’ve sat down and read a book… I found this series, I’m positive you’ve heard of it before, and I said to myself “use this to get back into Time for a Book!”  So, here I am, craving to get back into it!

…It’s finally time for a book…

I genuinely thought this series was much older than it is, thinking it was started in like 2015.  However, apparently, the first novel was published in 2020… Who knew?!  It caught massive amounts of attention rapidly. Like the Twilight series, pretty much every YA reader and Fantasy readers alike had tried reading it.  Because of that, I of course did my best to stay away from it.

Autumn’s Reign Is a Fulfilling Conclusion to the Lochlann Treaty Series!

Wow, Curious One.  The final book in the Lochlann Treaty Series, Autumn’s Reign, was remarkable.  I’m loathed to admit that I ended up relatively proud of Oliver, although I still don’t like him.  I am proud that he stood up to the manipulative adults and realized they were manipulating him, but he is still a very annoying boy.  After he returned from the war though, I will grudgingly admit that he became a man.  Hahah!

Jocelyn changed as well, quickly becoming a voice behind Charlie, which was both surprising and welcoming.  I really wasn’t looking forward to having to deal with childish and malicious antics by women trying to take each other down in shame.  You know, one of the popular tropes among young adult books.

Summer’s Rebellion – The Lochlann Treaty Series Still Going Strong!

Man, Curious One.  I am both elated and angry after reading Summer’s Rebellion!  I didn’t want to be right.  And I guess technically we don’t know for certain if I was right or not, but really, the alchemist who can create the poison that killed the king is from Socair and Oliver’s aunt and uncle are the only people who have both the money and the connection to Socair, so they obviously poisoned and killed the king.  Also, Oliver is still an easily manipulated little boy.  Geez, all he does is piss me off…

Winter’s Captive – The Lochlann Treaty Series – by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison

Winter's Captive

Hello there Curious One!  I just began this series called The Lochlann Treaty.  It is written by Robin D. Mahle and Elle Madison.  Book one, Winter’s Captive, was pretty good.  Good enough for me to continue reading the series at least!  There are four books so far in the series, spanning each of the four seasons.

Winter’s Captive was a bit slow most of the time though.  I mean, it read fast, but the book covered every single day during the adventure.  Which, if they are written like I’m hoping and combined the series covers about a year, it will be a fun way to experience this specific adventure.

The Wreck of Sybellen – Novella Discussion

The Wreck of Sybellen, YA Fantasy, Elements, Magic, Power, Mystery, Mermaid, Siren, Ocean, Myth, Lore, Journal

Alright, Curious One.  I just completed the first companion novella which belongs to Born of Water – from the Elemental Origins series – titled The Wreck of Sybellen.  I just need to say, “Whoa.”  I mentioned this novella during my Born of Water discussion you hopefully read.

Okay, first off, I’m gonna say that I LOVED how it was entirely written in journal format from Aleksandra Novak (you have an idea who she is if you read Born of Water).  It was a wonderful break-up from the main storyline that still held relevance and pulled you in.  It also directly picked up where Targa left off in the final sentence of Born of Water; where she opened the translated journal pages to begin reading.

Born of Water – Elemental Origins – Let’s Just Say…

Born of Water, YA Fantasy, Elements, Magic, Power, Mystery, Mermaid, Siren, Ocean, Drowning, Poland, Canada, Friendship, Heroines, Lore, Myth, Fiction, Fantasy, Romance

Are you ready for Born of Water, Curious One?

WOW!!! This first book in the Elemental Origins Series by A.L. Knorr blew me out of the water!!  No pun intended! Full of mermaid lore, old shipwrecks, sea-life communication and a reveal of powers, I had the hardest time putting it down!  The entire novel felt like one of the most realistic mermaid/siren lore versions out there.

I would like to start with the relationship evolution between the mother, Mira and her daughter, Targa.  I felt a lot of angst when their relationship was sort of swapped.  You read a lot of books with that role reversal when the characters live in a trailer.  I cannot attest to that style of living, so perhaps it is the norm and I am just not as educated as I would like to think.
